Description

Sweet and Sour (2018) belongs to Tero Puha’s Candy Boy Box series, a body of work exploring the relationship between the male figure, desire, and the visual language of pop aesthetics.

In this photograph the body is presented within an intentionally artificial and decorative setting. Bright colours, candy-like textures, and stylised staging create a tension between surface pleasure and vulnerability. The image moves between attraction and distance — sweetness and control — inviting the viewer to reflect on how the body is constructed, displayed, and looked at.

The Candy Boy Box series forms an important transition in Puha’s practice toward later works investigating the staged body and performative masculinity.
