Explanations of different types of artworks
Original Print
Graphics prints are printed in series. Each print is a unique, independent work of art. A pre-determined number of prints are printed. The artist confirms every print he accepts by serial numbering and signing. The numbering tells how many pieces of the series were made. In digital graphics, the artist uses digital tools that can be used to print an image with archival pigment inks on paper or other material.
Original Photograph
Each photograph is a unique, independent work of art. A pre-determined number of prints are printed. The artist confirms every print he accepts by serial numbering and signing. The numbering tells how many pieces of the series were made.
There are four types of original photographic prints:
Chromogenic color print, which is a color photograph exposed on photographic paper as a negative.
A silver gelatin print, i.e. a traditional black-and-white print exposed on mv photographic paper from a negative.
A digital color print, i.e. “lambda”, which is a print exposed with the help of a laser from a digital file onto chromogenic color paper.
Pigment print or ink print means ink jet print.
A pigment print is the most durable print and is most often used for photographic art.
Open Edition Print
These prints are original prints and are signed by hand. There is no limit how many copies are make, making the print less expensive than a numbered edition print.
Design Print
This is a print that is not signed by hand and is not numbered. It is much less expensive as there is no limitation how many copies of the work exist.
